Wood Fuel and Woodlands

PCT’ commitment to community initiatives and renewable is seen in its support for efforts to use woodland as a sustainable source of fuel and materials as well as recreation and leisure.

The trust obtained a grant to investigate the establishment of a community-based non-profit wood fuel group that now has scores of members who obtain fuel for their homes by scavenging felled forestry in agreement with owners. There are also plans to source logs through management agreements.

And the trust is backing plans by a separate community group to purchase a 6.49 hectares (16.04 acres) stand of mixed woodland at Eshiels to demonstrate how traditional management techniques such as coppicing can exploit timber while safeguarding its environmental and recreational importance.
